Wrexham are closing in on the signing of Jacques Ekomié from Angers after the Gabon international completed a medical ahead of a deal worth around £8 million.

Sky Sports reports that the 23-year-old left-back has now undergone his medical, moving the transfer into its final stage after Wrexham and Angers had already reached an agreement over the financial terms of the move.

L’Équipe has reported that the package is worth slightly more than €8 million plus bonuses, with Ekomié expected to sign a four-year contract. An official announcement has not yet been made, meaning the transfer should still be treated as pending rather than completed.

The deal would represent another significant investment from Wrexham as they continue strengthening a squad built to compete at Championship level. Rather than targeting only players already established in the English system, the club have increasingly looked across European markets for younger profiles with room to develop.

Ekomié fits that strategy. He joined Angers from Bordeaux in 2024 and has since added Ligue 1 experience while also establishing himself at senior international level with Gabon.

His arrival would give Wrexham a more natural option on the left side of defence and add further athleticism to a squad that has already been active in the final weeks of the window.

The move is also notable because Wrexham have had to compete for the player. West Ham and Hamburg were among the clubs previously linked with Ekomié, but Wrexham have moved furthest in the process and are now positioned to complete the transfer once the remaining formalities are resolved.

With the medical completed and an agreement between the clubs already in place, the key outstanding step is the official confirmation. Barring a late complication, Ekomié is now on course to become another substantial addition to Wrexham’s Championship project.
