Wrexham submit £6.5m bid for Sheffield United midfielder Callum O’Hare

Wrexham have submitted a £6.5m bid for Sheffield United attacking midfielder Callum O’Hare as they continue an aggressive late push to add a starting creative player before the transfer deadline.

The offer has not been accepted and the move remains at the bid stage. talkSPORT reports that Wrexham have made their move for the 28-year-old, while The72, citing Andy Giddings, says O’Hare is one of several attacking midfielders under consideration as the club try to strengthen Phil Parkinson’s squad.

That distinction matters because this is not yet an advanced transfer. There is no reported agreement between the clubs, no medical scheduled and no indication that Sheffield United have opened the door to a sale on Wrexham’s terms.

Sheffield United’s position is complicated by the timing. O’Hare remains one of Chris Wilder’s most important creative players, and losing him this late would leave the Blades with limited time to source a replacement. Wilder has already made clear he wants to keep the midfielder at Bramall Lane, while also criticising what he described as Wrexham’s broad approach to the final days of the market.

For Wrexham, the logic is clear. They have been searching for a high-level attacking midfielder capable of improving the first XI rather than simply adding depth. O’Hare’s Championship experience, ability to receive between the lines and carry the ball through pressure would give them a different level of invention in central areas.

O’Hare joined Sheffield United from Coventry City in 2024 on a four-year contract with the option of an additional year, so the Blades are not under immediate contract pressure. That gives them leverage, especially if they believe the player remains central to their own promotion ambitions.

The bid still underlines Wrexham’s intent. A £6.5m offer for a direct Championship rival’s attacking midfielder is not exploratory interest; it is a serious attempt to test Sheffield United’s resolve before the deadline.
