Werder Bremen sign Ludovit Reis from Club Brugge

Werder Bremen have completed the signing of Ludovit Reis from Club Brugge, bringing the midfielder back to German football one year after his departure from Hamburger SV.

The move has now been confirmed by Werder, ending the uncertainty surrounding Reis’ future after his first season in Belgium.

Reis joined Club Brugge from Hamburg in the summer of 2025, signing a contract that was due to run until 2029. His time in Belgium, however, was disrupted by a shoulder injury and he struggled to establish the consistent first-team role he had previously enjoyed in Germany.

A return to the Bundesliga now gives the 26-year-old an opportunity to rebuild that momentum in familiar surroundings.

Reis spent four seasons at HSV and developed into an important figure in their midfield. Across 129 competitive appearances for the club, he recorded 20 goals and 13 assists, while also taking on greater responsibility within the squad during their successful push for promotion.

He wore the captain’s armband when Hamburg secured their return to the Bundesliga, making his subsequent move to Bremen particularly notable given the long-standing rivalry between the two northern German clubs.

For Werder, however, the transfer is primarily about adding another experienced and versatile option in midfield.

Reis is capable of contributing in different central roles and has already demonstrated an ability to progress the ball, support attacks and make late runs into advanced areas. His previous experience in German football should also allow him to adapt quickly to the demands of his new team.

The transfer gives Reis a fresh opportunity after a difficult year in Belgium while providing Werder with a player who already understands both the Bundesliga environment and the expectations that come with playing for a major northern German club.

His arrival also adds another storyline to future meetings between Werder and Hamburg. Reis spent a significant period of his career at HSV and was part of the side that finally brought Bundesliga football back to the club before leaving for Brugge.

He will now continue his career on the other side of one of German football’s traditional regional rivalries.

With the transfer officially completed, Reis can turn his attention fully toward integrating into the Werder squad and preparing for the start of the new Bundesliga campaign.
