Tottenham agree season-long loan deal for Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk

Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a deal with Chelsea to sign Mykhailo Mudryk on a season-long loan, with the Ukraine winger moving towards a deadline-day medical.

The Guardian reports that Spurs agreed the loan after turning away from a proposed move for Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye, while Sky Sports reported on Tuesday morning that Mudryk is due to begin medical checks with Tottenham as the transfer progresses towards completion.

The deal has not yet been formally announced by either club.

Mudryk’s move would reunite him with Roberto De Zerbi, who worked with the winger at Shakhtar Donetsk before the Ukrainian joined Chelsea in January 2023. De Zerbi is now in charge at Tottenham, and the 25-year-old favoured the opportunity to work with the Italian again after other Premier League clubs also showed interest.

The proposed transfer comes little more than a month after Mudryk was cleared to return to football. Chelsea confirmed on July 31 that the anti-doping proceedings involving the Ukraine international had been resolved, allowing him to resume his career with immediate effect.

Mudryk originally signed an eight-and-a-half-year contract when Chelsea brought him to Stamford Bridge from Shakhtar, leaving the club with significant contractual control despite the proposed season away.

Reports indicate that Tottenham would also have an option to make the transfer permanent next summer, although there is conflicting information over its value. Some reports put the clause at £75 million, while The Times has reported a £70 million purchase option. The figure should therefore be treated as unconfirmed until the clubs disclose the structure or stronger consensus emerges.

For now, the transfer remains at an advanced stage rather than official: the clubs have agreed the loan, Mudryk is moving through the medical process, and completion is expected before Tuesday night’s deadline.
