Swansea City vs Watford: Unbeaten sides meet as Swans target 10 points from four

Swansea City welcome Watford to the Swansea.com Stadium on Tuesday night as two unbeaten Championship sides look to strengthen encouraging starts to the new season.

Vitor Matos’ Swansea have collected seven points from their opening three league matches and enter the fixture with confidence after an emphatic 3-0 victory away to Derby County on Saturday.

That result followed a win at Stoke City and a draw in their other league outing, leaving the Swans among the Championship’s early front-runners.

Watford have also avoided defeat through the opening three rounds.

Alessio Dionisi’s side have five points after beating Southampton and drawing with both Wrexham and West Ham United, the latter a 1-1 result at Vicarage Road on Saturday.

The trip to South Wales therefore offers Watford an opportunity to turn an unbeaten start into stronger early momentum, while Swansea can move to 10 points from four games with another victory.

Matos has urged his players to reproduce the mentality and intensity they showed at Derby and make home advantage count.

Swansea do have several availability concerns.

Joseph Opoku is being assessed after suffering a cut to his foot during the win at Pride Park, while captain Ben Cabango continues to be monitored because of a heel problem.

Gonçalo Franco and Cameron Burgess remain unavailable.

New signing Tom Iorpenda is registered and available for selection after completing his move from Huddersfield Town.

There is also an early-season milestone available to the hosts.

Victory or a draw would see Swansea open a league campaign unbeaten through their first four matches for the first time since 2020.

Watford, though, have shown enough resilience under Dionisi to suggest that will not come easily.
