Roma return with improved Jamie Leweling offer to Stuttgart

Roma have returned with an improved offer for Jamie Leweling as they continue their late-window search for a wide attacker, but the move remains short of an agreement with Stuttgart.

The Serie A club have submitted a new proposal worth around €35m for a permanent transfer, according to BILD, after seeing an earlier structure rejected by Stuttgart. Talks are now reported to be taking place both between the clubs and with Leweling, keeping the operation active before the deadline.

The shift in structure is important. Roma’s first approach was built around a loan fee and a purchase clause, with Sky Germany reporting that the total package could have exceeded €40m. Stuttgart rejected that model, leaving Roma to return with a cleaner permanent-transfer proposal.

That does not mean the deal is close to completion. Stuttgart have not accepted the new offer, and Leweling has not been announced as having agreed the move. The safest framing is that Roma have improved their bid and restarted the negotiation, not that they have secured the player.

For Roma, Leweling fits a need that has remained open through several market threads. Gian Piero Gasperini has wanted more pace and directness in wide attacking areas, and Roma have already explored multiple options while shifting resources elsewhere in the squad.

Leweling would offer a Bundesliga-proven profile rather than a development signing. The 25-year-old has become an important player for Stuttgart since first arriving from Union Berlin, and the club made his move permanent in 2024 after a season in which he appeared in every competitive match.

For Stuttgart, the decision is complicated by both sporting and financial factors. Selling Leweling would generate a major profit on a player signed permanently for a far lower fee, but it would also remove a Germany international and key wide option at the end of the window.

Roma’s second offer has kept the deal alive. Whether it becomes a transfer now depends on Stuttgart’s willingness to sell, Leweling’s own decision and how quickly the clubs can settle a structure before the deadline.
