Rodri completes Barcelona medical ahead of proposed move from Manchester City

Rodri has completed his medical examinations with Barcelona as the Spanish champions move closer to finalising the midfielder’s transfer from Manchester City.

The 30-year-old reported to the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper on Tuesday morning to undergo the required checks after arriving in Barcelona a day earlier. The medical represents one of the final steps before the proposed move can be formally completed.

Manchester City have accepted Barcelona’s £65.4 million offer for Rodri after rejecting two earlier bids during negotiations. The Spain international is expected to sign a four-year contract with the Catalan club, bringing his seven-year spell at the Etihad Stadium towards an end.

Rodri travelled to Barcelona on Monday after an agreement between the clubs was reached. The midfielder made clear on his arrival that he was pleased with the outcome of the negotiations and eager to begin the next stage of his career in Spain.

Barcelona are working through the remaining administrative formalities before completing the signing. The club had hoped to move from Tuesday morning’s medical to the contract signing later in the day, although the timetable remains dependent on the necessary documentation being finalised with Manchester City.

The move would bring Rodri back to La Liga for the first time since he left Atletico Madrid for Manchester City in 2019. During his time in England, he became a central figure in City’s most successful era, winning four Premier League titles and scoring the decisive goal in the 2023 Champions League final against Inter Milan.

Rodri also won the Ballon d’Or in 2024 and captained Spain to World Cup success in 2026. His final period at Manchester City was disrupted by injuries, including a serious knee problem and more recent back surgery, but he returned to the club’s training ground last week before the transfer negotiations reached their decisive stage.

Barcelona have yet to announce the transfer officially, with the completion of the remaining paperwork required before Rodri can be formally presented as their new player.
