Mamadou Sarr in action for Chelsea

Real Sociedad are exploring a loan move for Chelsea defender Mamadou Sarr as the Spanish club continue their search for reinforcements in central defence.

According to Santi Aouna, the 20-year-old has emerged as an option for the LaLiga side, with Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal also showing interest in his situation. No agreement has been reported between Chelsea and Real Sociedad at this stage, and Sarr remains one of several defensive options under consideration.

Real Sociedad have been assessing the market as they look to add another centre-back before the transfer window closes. Their interest in Sarr comes after the club were unable to complete a move for Nayef Aguerd, prompting them to consider alternative targets.

Sarr joined Chelsea from Strasbourg in 2025 in a deal reported to be worth around €20 million and signed a long-term contract with the Premier League club. He subsequently spent last season back at Strasbourg on loan, gaining further senior experience before returning to Chelsea.

A temporary move could provide the young defender with another opportunity for regular first-team football while allowing Chelsea to retain control over his longer-term development.

Real Sociedad would offer Sarr experience in LaLiga and a potential route to significant playing time, although competition from Al Hilal adds another possible destination should Chelsea decide to sanction a loan.

The situation remains at an exploratory stage. Real Sociedad’s interest is concrete enough for Sarr to feature among their defensive targets, but there is currently no indication that a club-to-club agreement has been reached or that the proposed loan is close to completion.
