Real Madrid formally unveil Yan Diomande after signing 19-year-old until 2033
Real Madrid have formally presented Yan Diomande as a first-team player after the 19-year-old signed a contract running until June 2033. The Ivory Coast international will wear the No.25 shirt as he begins his first season under José Mourinho.
Yan Diomande has formally completed his introduction as a Real Madrid player, signing a seven-year contract through June 2033 as the Spanish giants continue to build around one of Europe’s most highly rated young attackers.
The 19-year-old Ivory Coast international was welcomed at Real Madrid City on Tuesday by club president Florentino Pérez, where he signed his contract and received the No.25 shirt. The ceremony completed the formalities of a move that had already placed Diomande inside José Mourinho’s first-team plans.
Unlike a conventional presentation, Diomande’s official welcome came after he had already experienced competitive football for his new club. The former RB Leipzig forward made his La Liga debut against Espanyol at the weekend, appearing as a substitute in Madrid’s 2-1 victory and beginning the process of adapting to an attack built around some of the game’s most established names.
That context makes Tuesday’s ceremony less about confirming his arrival and more about defining the scale of Madrid’s commitment to him. A contract running until 2033 gives the club a long-term platform to develop a player who has progressed rapidly from Leganés to Leipzig and now the Bernabéu.
Diomande’s profile also offers Mourinho a different type of attacking option. Comfortable carrying the ball at defenders and operating from wide areas, the Ivorian adds acceleration and one-on-one threat to a squad already containing Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior. His challenge will be converting those qualities into consistent production while competing for minutes at a club where attacking places carry exceptional demands.
The relationship with Mourinho was established before the transfer was completed. Speaking to Real Madrid TV earlier this month, Diomande said he had spoken with the coach before joining and credited both Mourinho and the club for showing confidence in him. He also described the move as the fulfilment of a childhood ambition.
Madrid are therefore investing not only in Diomande’s current ability but in the trajectory of a forward who will not turn 20 until November. His first appearance has already arrived; the next stage is establishing where he fits within Mourinho’s attacking structure and how quickly he can turn potential into influence.
Diomande could now make his first competitive appearance at the Santiago Bernabéu when Real Madrid host Real Sociedad on Wednesday.
