Rafael Leao has publicly rejected a report claiming that AC Milan head coach Ruben Amorim views him as a negative influence within the dressing room, adding another layer to the uncertainty surrounding the Portugal international’s future at San Siro.

The claim originated from a report by *La Gazzetta dello Sport*, which suggested Amorim’s reservations over Leao extend beyond tactical considerations. According to the Italian newspaper, the Milan coach has concerns over the winger’s suitability for his preferred system and is also said to have reservations about his influence within the squad.

Leao responded directly after the claim was shared on X, dismissing the suggestion and accusing the account of spreading false information.

The 27-year-old’s intervention is significant because it represents a direct public response from the player amid growing speculation over his position at Milan. Reports in Italy have suggested that the Rossoneri would consider selling Leao before the end of the summer transfer window if an acceptable offer arrives.

From a tactical perspective, questions have been raised over how naturally Leao fits Amorim’s attacking structure. The Portuguese coach has traditionally relied on forwards capable of operating effectively in narrower positions and between the lines, while Leao has built much of his reputation through explosive runs from the left flank.

However, the suggestion that Amorim considers Leao a negative presence in the dressing room remains a reported claim rather than a publicly confirmed position from either the coach or Milan.

There are also differing accounts regarding Amorim’s stance on the forward. Separate reporting in Italy has indicated that the coach would be prepared to continue working with Leao, while Milan could still sanction a transfer if their financial demands are met.

Leao’s future has been the subject of recurring speculation throughout the summer, with several clubs linked with a potential move. Milan’s valuation of the winger has also reportedly fallen compared with earlier expectations, increasing the possibility that interested clubs could test the Serie A side’s position before the transfer deadline.

For now, no departure has been agreed and Milan have made no official announcement regarding Leao’s future.

What is clear is that the forward has chosen to address one specific element of the speculation himself: he has publicly rejected the suggestion that Amorim regards him as a negative influence inside the Milan dressing room.
