Paulo Dybala remains in contention for Roma’s Serie A meeting with Atalanta after medical examinations showed no significant injury, Gian Piero Gasperini has confirmed. The Argentina international has been dealing with muscular fatigue ahead of Saturday’s game at the Stadio Olimpico, leaving his availability uncertain with less than 24 hours remaining before kick-off. Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Friday, Gasperini said tests carried out on Dybala had not revealed a specific injury. The Roma coach added that Dybala would attempt to train later in the day, with the final decision dependent on how secure and comfortable the forward feels physically. Roma therefore have not yet confirmed Dybala as available against Atalanta. Gasperini stressed that the club do not intend to take unnecessary risks, particularly with a demanding run of fixtures approaching. Roma face Atalanta before beginning their Champions League campaign against Fenerbahçe and then returning to domestic action against Torino. The priority is for Dybala to be fully confident in his condition before returning to competitive action. His status represents the main selection doubt for Roma ahead of the Atalanta fixture, with Gasperini otherwise preparing for a game he described as an important early test against his former club. Dybala’s progress in Friday’s training session will now determine whether he can be included in the matchday squad. For Roma, the positive element from the medical assessment is that no structural problem has been identified. The uncertainty is instead centred on whether Dybala can recover sufficiently from the muscular fatigue to be considered ready for Saturday. A final call is expected after his condition has been evaluated following the remaining pre-match work.
