Niko Kovač demands apology after touchline clash with Bayern assistant

Niko Kovač has called for an apology from Bayern Munich assistant coach Aaron Danks after a touchline exchange during Borussia Dortmund’s 2-1 defeat in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup.

The incident occurred during the second half at Signal Iduna Park, with tensions rising between the two technical areas as Dortmund pushed for a response after falling behind.

Kovač later criticised Danks’ behaviour and said he believed the Bayern assistant had crossed a line during the exchange.

“I think an apology would be appropriate,” Kovač said after the match, while making clear that his frustration was directed at the interaction rather than the result itself.

The Dortmund head coach also insisted that his team showed enough quality during the second half to compete with the Bundesliga champions, despite ultimately falling short in the first domestic trophy of the season.

The Supercup defeat was Dortmund’s first competitive match of the new campaign, while Bayern continued their strong start under Vincent Kompany after another summer of squad changes.

The incident adds an early element of tension to the rivalry between the two clubs, although both sides will now turn their attention towards their respective league campaigns.
