Moise Kean pushes for Como move as Fiorentina standoff escalates

Moise Kean’s push to leave Fiorentina for Como has escalated into an open standoff after the Italy striker missed Wednesday morning’s team training and was subsequently fined by the club.

Kean arrived late at Viola Park and did not take part in the session, having made clear that he wants Fiorentina to allow him to join Como before the transfer window closes. He was later called back for individual work in the afternoon, but the episode has transformed what had been a conventional transfer negotiation into a dispute between one of Fiorentina’s most important players and the club.

Como have submitted an improved offer worth around €40 million for the 26-year-old. Corriere della Sera reports that the proposal is structured at €35m guaranteed plus €5m in bonuses, following the rejection of an earlier bid.

Fiorentina have not accepted it.

Their position remains that Kean will only be allowed to leave if a suitable replacement can first be secured, an increasingly difficult condition with the deadline approaching. The club are also unwilling to allow the striker’s actions to dictate either the timing or financial terms of a potential sale.

That stance has hardened following Wednesday’s events.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Fiorentina have already decided to fine Kean for his conduct. The message from the club is equally significant from a sporting perspective: if Como do not produce an offer Fiorentina consider acceptable and no replacement is found, Kean is expected to remain in Florence regardless of his desire to leave.

The possibility of him then being left outside the immediate first-team picture has also been raised as the relationship between the parties deteriorates.

Kean’s position is now considerably clearer than it was only days ago.

Until the beginning of this week, the forward had continued training normally despite Como’s interest. That changed on Wednesday, when he informed Fiorentina that he wanted to pursue the move and chose not to take part in the morning session.

Como offer a particularly attractive sporting proposition after qualifying for the Champions League, and Kean is understood to be receptive to joining Cesc Fàbregas’ side.

For Como, the pursuit represents another indication of how dramatically the club’s ambitions have changed. They are no longer operating simply to consolidate their Serie A position; their recruitment is increasingly being shaped by the demands of competing domestically and in Europe.

Kean would provide a proven Serie A centre-forward capable of immediately raising the level of their attack.

For Fiorentina, however, the calculation is more complicated than the value of a single offer.

Selling their leading striker in the final days of the window would create an immediate recruitment problem. The club have already begun assessing alternatives, but replacing an established Italy international at short notice — without weakening the squad or paying an inflated late-window price — is precisely the scenario Fiorentina want to avoid.

That leaves all three parties with different priorities.

Como want to exploit the player’s willingness to move and complete one of the most significant signings in their recent history. Kean wants the transfer sanctioned. Fiorentina, meanwhile, are determined to maintain control of the process and will not sell simply because the forward is applying pressure.

The €40m proposal has brought the negotiation closer to Fiorentina’s decision point, but it has not yet produced an agreement.

Wednesday’s training incident has instead increased the pressure around the deal.

What had been a question of valuation is now also a question of whether Fiorentina can repair a rapidly deteriorating relationship if the transfer does not happen. With Kean openly pushing for Como and the Viola refusing to sanction his departure without the right conditions, the final days of the window have become a test of which side is prepared to compromise first.
