Manchester United close in on Carlos Baleba deal with Brighton

Manchester United are closing in on a deal to sign Carlos Baleba from Brighton & Hove Albion, with negotiations between the two Premier League clubs advancing towards an agreement worth more than £60 million.

Sky Sports News reports that United are now close to reaching a full agreement with Brighton, although the final fee and payment structure have yet to be completely settled. A five-year contract is ready for Baleba, who is preparing to travel to Manchester once the club-to-club negotiations are concluded.

David Ornstein has reported that United’s current proposal is worth around £60 million guaranteed plus a further £5 million in add-ons. Brighton’s valuation is understood to remain slightly higher, but talks have continued to progress and the gap between the clubs has narrowed significantly.

Baleba has been one of United’s priority midfield targets during the summer as the club look to strengthen an area of the squad that has already undergone significant change. The Cameroon international has established himself as one of Brighton’s most important midfielders since arriving from Lille in 2023, combining physical presence with the ability to carry possession and operate in several central roles.

The 22-year-old is currently recovering from an ankle ligament injury sustained during pre-season. The issue is not expected to keep him out for an extended period, but any move would still be subject to the usual medical process once United and Brighton have finalised the terms of the transfer.

Baleba has made more than 100 appearances for Brighton across all competitions and featured regularly during the 2025-26 campaign. His development on the south coast has made him one of the most highly regarded young midfielders in the Premier League and a significant asset for Brighton.

United’s pursuit has now moved beyond initial interest, but the transfer should not yet be regarded as complete. No formal announcement has been made by either club, and the remaining financial details still need to be resolved before Baleba can undergo a medical and complete the move.

If those final negotiations are concluded, Baleba would become another major addition to Manchester United’s midfield rebuild ahead of the new Premier League season.
