Manchester City open door to further exits as Maresca plans squad rebuild

Manchester City’s summer rebuild could continue into the final stages of the transfer window, with Enzo Maresca admitting that further squad changes remain possible.

The departure of Rodri to Barcelona has already created one of the biggest challenges of Maresca’s first season in charge, but the City manager has indicated that the club’s reshaping process is not limited to replacing the Ballon d’Or-winning midfielder.

Maresca said City would respect the decisions of players who are looking for a new challenge, with Omar Marmoush and Nico González among the names linked with possible exits.

“We are not going to keep players who don’t want to stay,” Maresca said, outlining the club’s approach as the transfer window moves towards its final phase.

Marmoush has attracted interest after an impressive first period at the Etihad Stadium, while González joined City from Porto earlier this year and has yet to establish himself as an undisputed starter.

The potential departures would add another layer of change to a squad already adapting to major transitions following Rodri’s move and the end of Pep Guardiola’s long tenure.

City are also expected to continue searching for a midfielder capable of filling the role previously occupied by Rodri, but Maresca’s comments suggest recruitment decisions could extend beyond that position.

No agreement has been reached for either Marmoush or González at this stage, but City’s willingness to assess offers indicates that further movement remains possible before the transfer deadline.
