Manchester City complete late comeback to beat Bournemouth 2-1 in Maresca’s first win

Manchester City completed a dramatic comeback to defeat Bournemouth 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium, giving Enzo Maresca his first Premier League victory in charge after a difficult start to the new era.

Bournemouth stunned the hosts in the 26th minute when Marcus Tavernier punished a defensive mistake to give the visitors the lead.

City struggled to turn possession into clear chances during the first half, with Bournemouth defending compactly and threatening on transitions. The pressure increased after the break as Maresca’s side pushed for a response.

The breakthrough finally arrived in the closing stages. Marc Guéhi, who had endured a difficult moment after missing an earlier opportunity, equalised in the 85th minute with a header from Rayan Cherki’s corner.

City continued searching for a winner and found it deep into stoppage time. Joško Gvardiol reacted quickest after a VAR review confirmed the goal, completing the turnaround and securing three points.

The victory provided an important early result for Maresca, whose team are still adapting to major changes following Rodri’s departure and a summer of squad transition.
