Liverpool weigh final Minteh bid after Brighton reject £60m offer

Liverpool are approaching a decision point in their pursuit of Yankuba Minteh after Brighton rejected two bids for the winger and maintained a valuation of around £70 million.

Liverpool have already seen offers of £50 million and £60 million turned down for the 22-year-old, with Brighton showing little willingness to compromise as the September 1 deadline approaches.

talkSPORT reports that Liverpool are now considering whether to make one final attempt to reach Brighton’s asking price or move on to alternative targets. No third bid has yet been confirmed.

The pursuit reflects a clear priority in Andoni Iraola’s squad planning. Liverpool lost Mohamed Salah during the summer and the head coach has publicly acknowledged that additional quality is required in wide areas, despite the arrival of Victor Muñoz.

Minteh offers a profile Liverpool currently lack on the right: direct running, Premier League experience and the ability to attack defenders one-on-one. He has registered nine goals and eight assists across his first two league seasons with Brighton after joining from Newcastle United in 2024.

There is, however, an immediate complication. The Gambia international is recovering from a leg injury suffered during pre-season and is expected to remain unavailable for several more weeks, meaning any deal would be made primarily with the medium and long term in mind rather than as an instant solution.

Brighton’s negotiating position has been strengthened by that longer-term value. Minteh remains an important asset at 22, and the club have already demonstrated this summer that they will demand premium fees for players attracting interest from leading Premier League sides.

Liverpool continue to explore other wide forwards, including Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola, but the valuation gap in that deal is substantially larger.

The decision on Minteh is therefore becoming increasingly binary: meet Brighton’s price, or redirect a significant part of Liverpool’s remaining transfer budget elsewhere. With less than a week of the window remaining, that call is now approaching.
