Liverpool agree personal terms with Ibrahim Mbaye as PSG talks continue
Liverpool have reportedly agreed personal terms with Paris Saint-Germain winger Ibrahim Mbaye on a five-year contract, but the clubs have yet to reach an agreement over the transfer fee.
Liverpool have taken a significant step in their pursuit of Ibrahim Mbaye after reaching an agreement with the Paris Saint-Germain winger over personal terms.
RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins reports that Mbaye has agreed the financial terms of a five-year contract with Liverpool and has chosen the Anfield project ahead of interest from Bayer Leverkusen. The agreement with the player does not, however, mean the transfer is complete, with Liverpool still needing to strike a deal with PSG.
That distinction remains important. Liverpool have been exploring a move for the 18-year-old throughout August, while Sky Sports has previously reported that Mbaye is interested in moving to Anfield. PSG have so far retained control of the negotiations, with the player still under contract in Paris and no agreement between the clubs announced.
Le Parisien reported earlier this month that PSG were looking for a fee in the region of €50 million for the Senegal international. Whether Liverpool are prepared to meet that valuation, or can negotiate a different structure, is now the central issue in talks.
Mbaye’s situation has moved quickly in recent days. He was left out of PSG’s squad for the Trophée des Champions against Lens on Sunday, having been on the bench for the UEFA Super Cup four days earlier. L’Équipe reported that both Mbaye and Bradley Barcola watched the Lens game from the stands amid uncertainty over their futures.
Liverpool’s interest is also consistent with their broader search for attacking reinforcements. Mbaye primarily operates from the right and has emerged as one of PSG’s most highly rated academy graduates, becoming the youngest player ever to start a competitive match for the club when he made his full debut at 16 in August 2024.
For now, the decisive part of the deal remains unresolved. Mbaye has reportedly given Liverpool his preference and terms with the player are in place, but a transfer will only move towards completion once Liverpool and PSG agree a fee and the structure of the deal.
