Leeds complete signing of Nico Elvedi from Borussia Mönchengladbach

Leeds United have completed the permanent signing of Switzerland international defender Nico Elvedi from Borussia Mönchengladbach, bringing his 11-year spell with the Bundesliga club to an end.

The 29-year-old has signed a three-year contract at Elland Road after Leeds reached an agreement with Gladbach. The clubs have not disclosed the transfer fee, although the deal has been reported to be worth around €10 million.

Elvedi arrives with extensive top-level experience after joining Gladbach from FC Zürich in 2015 and establishing himself as a long-term fixture in the German club’s defence. He made 364 competitive appearances during his time at Borussia-Park, scoring 19 goals.

His 318 Bundesliga appearances also represent a club record for a non-German player, underlining the consistency and longevity of his spell in Mönchengladbach.

The move reunites Elvedi with Leeds head coach Daniel Farke, who worked with the defender during the 2022-23 season at Gladbach. Elvedi featured 34 times across all competitions during that campaign and now joins a squad being strengthened ahead of another Premier League season.

His experience extends to international football, with Elvedi having accumulated more than 70 senior caps for Switzerland. He played every minute of his country’s run to the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup, adding further tournament experience before completing his move to England.

For Leeds, the signing provides an established central defender capable of immediately adding experience to the back line while also bringing familiarity with Farke’s methods.

Elvedi becomes the club’s fourth signing of the summer as Leeds continue shaping their squad before the new campaign.

For Gladbach, the transfer closes one of the longest-serving chapters in their current squad. For Elvedi, it brings a first opportunity in English football after more than a decade in the Bundesliga and a reunion with a coach he has previously worked under.
