Juventus confirm Khéphren Thuram surgery and Juan Cabal muscle injury

Juventus have confirmed that Khéphren Thuram underwent successful right-knee surgery on Thursday, while Juan Cabal has been diagnosed with a low-grade muscle injury in his left thigh.

Juventus midfielder Khéphren Thuram and defender Juan Cabal, whose medical conditions were updated by the club.

Juventus have confirmed two fresh medical developments, with Khéphren Thuram undergoing knee surgery and Juan Cabal diagnosed with a muscle injury following a problem in training.

Thuram underwent chondroplasty surgery in Lyon on Thursday morning to treat patellar chondropathy in his right knee. Juventus said the procedure was completed successfully and confirmed that the France international will begin his rehabilitation programme on Friday.

The operation was carried out by Dr Bertrand Sonnery-Cottet at the Hôpital Privé Jean Mermoz, with Juventus medical director Dr Luca Stefanini also present.

The club have not provided a timetable for Thuram’s return to first-team action.

Juventus also revealed that Cabal underwent diagnostic examinations at J|medical on Thursday after experiencing a muscular problem during the previous day’s training session.

Imaging showed a low-grade injury to the semimembranosus muscle in the Colombian defender’s left thigh. As with Thuram, Juventus did not specify an official recovery period in their medical bulletin.

The double update leaves head coach Luciano Spalletti dealing with two additional fitness issues as Juventus prepare for the next stage of their domestic campaign.

Thuram’s immediate focus will now be on beginning rehabilitation following surgery, while Cabal will start his recovery after the extent of his thigh injury was established by Thursday’s tests.

Further assessments will determine their respective return schedules, with Juventus so far limiting their official update to the medical diagnoses and the successful completion of Thuram’s procedure.
