Juventus open talks with Tottenham over Pape Matar Sarr move

Juventus are in talks with Tottenham Hotspur over a move for Pape Matar Sarr as Luciano Spalletti looks to reinforce his midfield in the final days of the transfer window.

Sky Sports reports that negotiations between the clubs are ongoing, with Juventus exploring a loan structure for the Senegal international.

No final agreement has yet been reached.

That distinction is important because some reports in Italy have suggested the deal is already close to completion, but the latest Sky update states that discussions are still active and have not yet produced a definitive club-to-club agreement.

Sarr has become available after his position at Tottenham changed significantly under Roberto De Zerbi.

The Spurs head coach confirmed after Saturday’s defeat to Newcastle that Sarr was among three players who had asked to leave the club, alongside Richarlison and Kevin Danso.

De Zerbi made clear that Tottenham would only allow departures if suitable financial solutions were presented.

Juventus have now moved to test that position.

The Bianconeri’s midfield search has intensified after their pursuit of Franck Kessié failed, while uncertainty around Khéphren Thuram’s physical condition has added further urgency to the department.

Sarr offers a different profile to Kessié but fits several of Spalletti’s immediate requirements.

The 23-year-old combines mobility, defensive range and the ability to carry the ball through midfield, while his Premier League experience gives Juventus a player already accustomed to operating at high intensity.

His situation at Tottenham also creates the possibility of a deal structured around an initial loan rather than a major immediate transfer fee.

Reports in Italy have mentioned a potential loan fee followed by a conditional obligation to buy, but those financial terms have not yet been confirmed as part of a completed agreement.

Sarr’s desire for a greater role is another factor pushing the operation forward.

He has struggled to establish himself as a guaranteed starter at Tottenham and is now actively seeking a move before the market closes.
