Juventus reach agreement with Bologna for Jhon Lucumí

Juventus have reached a verbal agreement with Bologna for the transfer of Jhon Lucumí, with the Colombian defender now moving closer to completing a switch to Turin.

Fabrizio Romano reports that the two Serie A clubs have agreed a deal worth around €20 million including add-ons, with Lucumí also giving his approval to the move. The defender is expected to undergo a medical over the weekend before the remaining formalities are completed.

The transfer has not yet been officially announced by either club, but negotiations are understood to have reached an advanced stage.

Lucumí has been with Bologna since 2022 and has established himself as an experienced Serie A defender during that period. Primarily a left-sided centre-back, he offers composure in possession, strength in duels and the ability to progress the ball from deeper areas.

His profile fits Juventus’ need to add further depth and experience to the centre of defence ahead of the new season. Lucumí’s familiarity with Serie A also reduces the adaptation risk normally associated with a new defensive signing.

The move would also bring an end to a situation that had been developing for several weeks. Bologna chief executive Claudio Fenucci previously confirmed that the club had given Lucumí assurances that he could leave if a suitable offer arrived, after asking him to remain for an additional season last summer.

That position gave Juventus a clearer route into negotiations, particularly with the defender entering the final year of his current contract.

For Bologna, the reported agreement represents an opportunity to generate a significant fee for a player whose contract situation could have weakened their negotiating position further over time.

Juventus, meanwhile, would be adding a defender with substantial experience in Italian football at a relatively controlled cost compared with other options on the market.

Lucumí would not arrive as a guaranteed starter, but his ability to operate on the left side of central defence would give Juventus greater flexibility across different defensive structures and provide competition within the squad.

The transfer should still be treated as pending until the medical is completed and both clubs issue formal confirmation.

If no complications emerge during the final stages, Lucumí is expected to become one of Juventus’ latest additions ahead of the new Serie A campaign.
