Juventus reopen talks with Atlético Madrid over Alexander Sørloth

Juventus have reopened talks with Atlético Madrid over Alexander Sørloth as Luciano Spalletti pushes for another specialist centre-forward before the transfer window closes.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that contact between the clubs has resumed in recent hours, with the Norway international again emerging as Juventus’ preferred option for a more physical presence at the head of the attack.

The renewed pursuit comes only weeks after Juventus completed the permanent signing of Randal Kolo Muani from Paris Saint-Germain. Spalletti publicly demanded greater efficiency from the Frenchman following Sunday’s 1-0 win at Frosinone, but the interest in Sørloth is understood to reflect a desire for an additional No.9 rather than a straightforward replacement.

Sørloth offers a markedly different profile. At 1.95 metres, he gives Atlético a focal point capable of occupying centre-backs, attacking crosses and providing a direct route through pressure. The 30-year-old has scored 41 goals in his first 100 appearances for the Spanish club since joining from Villarreal in 2024.

The structure of any agreement remains unresolved.

According to Gazzetta, Juventus and Atlético have again discussed Nico González as part of the negotiations. The Argentina international spent last season on loan in Madrid and is keen on returning, potentially giving the two clubs a route towards a broader agreement.

González’s situation is significant because Juventus are looking to streamline Spalletti’s squad while still adding a striker whose characteristics are not currently replicated elsewhere in the forward line.

Atlético, however, are under no obligation to sell. Sørloth remains contracted until June 2028 and continues to occupy an important role in Diego Simeone’s attacking options.

With the Italian transfer window closing on September 1, Juventus now have limited time to determine whether the renewed discussions can develop into a workable deal. For now, Sørloth is back near the top of their striker shortlist, but negotiations remain at an exploratory stage rather than close to completion.
