Bayern cautious over Jamal Musiala return after treatment-related collapses
Bayern Munich are taking a cautious approach with Jamal Musiala after recent on-field collapses were linked by Vincent Kompany to changes in the midfielder’s treatment, with no firm return date yet set.
Jamal Musiala remains under medical supervision at Bayern Munich after the club linked his recent on-field collapses to adjustments in the treatment of a neurological condition.
The Germany international collapsed during two pre-season matches within the space of four days, first against RB Leipzig and then against Heidenheim, prompting concern over his health ahead of the new Bundesliga campaign.
Musiala subsequently disclosed that he had been diagnosed with temporary and treatable neurological absences, while stressing that doctors had not identified a serious underlying health risk.
Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany has since said the two episodes were connected to changes in Musiala’s treatment rather than a deterioration in his condition.
“The new things in the treatment caused those side effects,” Kompany said, while insisting there was no reason for alarm around the midfielder’s recovery.
Bayern nevertheless left Musiala out of the squad for Saturday’s 2-1 Supercup victory over Borussia Dortmund, giving him additional time away from competitive action.
Sporting director Max Eberl has also confirmed that Bayern were already aware of Musiala’s condition last season and have been supporting him through the treatment process.
The 23-year-old had only recently returned from a lengthy injury lay-off and remains one of the central figures in Bayern’s plans for the new season.
No firm date has yet been announced for his competitive return. Bayern’s immediate priority is to allow Musiala to continue adapting to his treatment before he is cleared to resume full match involvement.
