Jamal Musiala set to miss Bayern’s Bundesliga opener against Stuttgart

Jamal Musiala is set to miss Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga opener against VfB Stuttgart on Friday as the club continue to take a cautious approach to his return following recent health concerns.

Bild and Kicker report that the 23-year-old will not be included in Vincent Kompany’s squad at the Allianz Arena, a development also independently corroborated by Sky Sport Germany. Bayern have not yet issued a formal squad announcement.

Musiala is expected to return to team training during the course of this week, but Bayern’s medical staff and coaching team are prioritising a gradual reintegration rather than accelerating his competitive comeback.

The Germany international also missed Saturday’s 2-1 Supercup victory over Borussia Dortmund after collapsing during two pre-season matches against RB Leipzig and Heidenheim.

Musiala subsequently disclosed that he had been diagnosed with temporary and treatable neurological absences. Bayern have said the recent episodes were linked to changes in his treatment, with sporting director Max Eberl stressing that the club had been aware of the underlying condition and was supporting the player through the process.

Kompany has previously played down fears over Musiala’s long-term prospects and made clear that Bayern would give him the time required to adapt to the treatment.

His absence against Stuttgart nevertheless removes one of Bayern’s principal creators from the opening night of their Bundesliga title defence.

The champions have several attacking alternatives following their summer recruitment, but Musiala’s ability to receive between the lines, carry possession through pressure and create in crowded central areas remains difficult to replicate.

No firm date has been announced for his competitive return. Reports in Germany suggest Bayern are targeting a step-by-step return to full training first, with match selection determined only once Musiala and the club’s medical team are satisfied with his progress.
