Hull City close in on €32m Robinio Vaz deal with Roma

Hull City are closing in on an ambitious move for Roma striker Robinio Vaz, with the newly promoted Premier League club pushing toward an agreement that could be worth up to €32 million.

Reports in Italy, alongside information attributed to David Ornstein, indicate the clubs are now close to finalising the framework of the deal. The transfer has not yet been officially announced, but Hull’s interest has progressed well beyond an initial enquiry.

The scale of the proposed investment is significant. Hull only returned to the Premier League this season after nine years away and opened their campaign with a 2-0 victory over Manchester United. Committing a package in the region of €32 million for a 19-year-old would represent another clear statement that the club intends to build beyond short-term survival.

Vaz joined Roma from Marseille in January and signed a contract running until 2030. Roma described him at the time as one of France’s leading under-20 prospects after he had already made senior appearances in Ligue 1 and the Champions League.

His first months in Italy were interrupted by injury. Vaz suffered a collateral ligament problem in his right knee during pre-season preparation in July, having made 14 competitive appearances for Roma following his arrival from Marseille.

That context makes Hull’s move more notable. Rather than pursuing a proven Premier League forward at the peak of his value, the club appear willing to invest heavily in a player whose appeal is based on age, physical profile and long-term upside.

For Roma, the decision would also represent a rapid change in direction. Vaz was only recruited seven months ago and remains tied to the club on a long contract, meaning a sale now would reflect the size of Hull’s proposal rather than contractual pressure.

The deal is not complete, and the precise structure of the reported €32 million package still requires final confirmation. Until that happens, it should be treated as an advanced negotiation rather than a completed transfer.

But Hull’s position is now clear. Fresh from returning to the Premier League, they are attempting to turn that promotion into a more ambitious rebuild — and a move for one of Roma’s most highly rated young forwards would be one of the clearest signs yet of how aggressively they intend to do it.
