Hull City sign Ilyas Ansah from Union Berlin on five-year deal

Hull City have completed the signing of Ilyas Ansah from Union Berlin, with the Germany Under-21 forward signing a five-year contract with the Premier League club.

Union officially confirmed Ansah’s departure on Tuesday, bringing his spell in Berlin to an end after just one season. The 21-year-old joins Hull on a permanent deal and will link up with his new team immediately.

Neither club has disclosed the transfer fee. German reports differ on the precise structure, with figures ranging from around €21 million to a total package of €24 million including potential bonuses.

Those figures would make Ansah the most expensive sale in Union Berlin’s history, surpassing the deal that took Taiwo Awoniyi to Nottingham Forest in 2022. Union managing director Horst Heldt described Hull’s proposal as a highly attractive offer and said the club had agreed to respect the player’s wish to move to the Premier League.

Ansah joined Union from Paderborn in the summer of 2025 and made an immediate impact in Germany’s top flight. He scored twice on his Bundesliga debut against Stuttgart and finished the league campaign with five goals and three assists from 33 appearances.

The forward made 37 appearances in all competitions during his only season in Berlin and has also represented Germany at Under-21 level.

For Hull, the deal adds another young attacking option following promotion to the Premier League and represents a significant investment in a player with only one full Bundesliga season behind him.

Unlike several other deadline-day moves still awaiting medicals or final paperwork, Ansah’s transfer is complete: Union Berlin have confirmed his departure and the forward has signed his five-year Hull contract.
