Guglielmo Vicario joins Juventus on loan from Tottenham

Guglielmo Vicario has completed a return to Serie A after joining Juventus from Tottenham Hotspur on a season-long loan.

Both clubs confirmed the transfer on Tuesday, with Juventus securing the Italy international for the 2026/27 campaign. Tottenham said the agreement includes an option for the Turin club to make the move permanent at the end of the season.

The deal gives Juventus an experienced goalkeeper with three seasons of Premier League football behind him and gives Vicario the opportunity to re-establish himself in Italy after his position at Tottenham changed during the latter part of last season.

The Guardian reports that the purchase option is worth around £8.6 million. That figure has not been disclosed by either club, meaning the only confirmed structure at this stage is an initial loan with a non-mandatory route to a permanent transfer.

Vicario leaves north London having made 117 appearances for Tottenham since arriving from Empoli in 2023, recording 29 clean sheets. He was also part of the Spurs side that won the Europa League in 2025, ending the club’s 17-year wait for a major trophy.

His status changed following the arrival of Roberto De Zerbi. Antonin Kinsky moved ahead of him in the goalkeeping hierarchy towards the end of last season, and Tottenham subsequently added Martin Dubravka to their options during the summer. A move back to Italy therefore offered Vicario a clearer route to regular first-team football.

For Juventus, the transfer resolves a position they had been actively assessing during the final weeks of the window. The Turin club had also considered Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez before turning decisively towards Vicario.

Vicario already has extensive experience of Italian football. He began his career with Udinese and later represented Venezia, Perugia, Cagliari and Empoli before Tottenham brought him to the Premier League. His performances in England also helped establish him at senior international level, and he has since collected five caps for Italy.

The move now gives him the chance to compete at the top end of Serie A while entering a season that could determine whether Juventus exercise their option to keep him beyond next summer.
