Fulham open talks with Roma over Matías Soulé transfer

Fulham have opened talks with Roma over a possible move for Matías Soulé as Marco Silva’s side attempt to strengthen their attack before the summer transfer window closes.

Sky Sport Italia reports that the Premier League club have made direct contact with Roma over the 23-year-old Argentine, who remains under contract at the Stadio Olimpico until June 2029.

The discussions are active but remain at an early stage.

There is currently no agreement between the clubs and no confirmed fee attached to Fulham’s approach, despite previous reports earlier in the summer valuing Soulé at around €30million.

That distinction is significant with the deadline approaching.

Fulham have moved beyond simple interest by establishing contact with Roma, but the operation has not yet reached the point of advanced negotiations or an agreed financial structure.

For Roma, Soulé’s situation is closely connected to their own attacking recruitment.

The Serie A club are already assessing several wide options, including Chelsea’s Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, Stuttgart’s Jamie Leweling and Zenit St Petersburg’s Luiz Henrique.

Sky reports that Roma could attempt to sign two attacking players if Soulé leaves, rather than the one addition they had already been seeking.

Their first proposal for Leweling — a €5m paid loan with a potential €35m conditional obligation to buy — has been rejected by Stuttgart, adding another layer of uncertainty to Roma’s plans in the final days of the market.

Soulé’s departure would therefore have consequences beyond the sale itself.

The Argentine has developed into an important attacking option since joining Roma from Juventus in 2024 and offers the ability to play from the right or operate more centrally behind the striker.

Fulham’s interest gives Roma a late decision to make: whether the financial value of a potential sale outweighs the disruption of replacing an established attacking player with very little time remaining in the window.

For Fulham, the attraction is clear.

Soulé would add creativity, one-against-one ability and another left-footed option to Silva’s attack, but the next stage will depend on whether exploratory contact develops into a formal proposal acceptable to Roma.

For now, the most accurate position is that talks have begun — not that a transfer is close.
