Feyenoord are set to complete the return of Reiss Nelson on a free transfer after the former Arsenal winger successfully passed his medical in Rotterdam.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Nelson has completed his medical checks and agreed the terms of his contract, with an official announcement from Feyenoord now expected.

The 26-year-old is available without a transfer fee after reaching an agreement with Arsenal to terminate his contract before the end of the summer window.

Feyenoord have not yet formally announced the signing, so the move should remain classified as advanced rather than official until the club completes the final registration and confirmation process.

Nelson is already familiar with De Kuip after spending the 2021/22 season on loan at Feyenoord from Arsenal.

He made 32 appearances in all competitions during that spell and scored four goals, playing a role in the side that reached the inaugural Europa Conference League final under Arne Slot.

Nelson later returned to Arsenal before spending further loan spells in the Premier League, but regular first-team opportunities remained limited. His departure from north London ended a long association with the club after progressing through Arsenal’s academy and making 90 senior appearances.

A permanent return to Rotterdam now offers Nelson the opportunity to re-establish himself at a club where he previously enjoyed one of the most productive periods of his senior career.

His free-agent status also allows Feyenoord to complete the move without negotiating a transfer fee with Arsenal, although the Dutch club still need to finalise registration before confirming him as part of their squad.

The essential sporting steps have been completed: Nelson has arrived in Rotterdam, passed his medical and agreed contractual terms. Formal confirmation from Feyenoord is the remaining step before the transfer becomes official.
