Como reach verbal agreement with Chelsea for Robert Sánchez loan

Como have reached a verbal agreement with Chelsea over a season-long loan for Robert Sánchez, with the Spain goalkeeper travelling to Italy on deadline day to complete the proposed move.

Fabrizio Romano reports that the clubs agreed terms late on Monday, while Sky Sports journalist James Savundra reports that Sánchez is travelling to Italy on Tuesday as the deal moves towards completion.

The transfer has not yet been formally announced by either club, leaving medical and administrative formalities still to be completed before Sánchez can be considered a Como player.

The 28-year-old’s position at Chelsea changed following the arrival of Emiliano Martínez from Aston Villa. Martínez has signed a three-year contract at Stamford Bridge and moved ahead of Sánchez in Chelsea’s goalkeeping plans, creating the possibility of a late exit for the Spaniard.

Sánchez joined Chelsea from Brighton in August 2023 on a seven-year contract and has spent much of his time at Stamford Bridge competing for the first-choice role. A loan would therefore represent a temporary departure rather than a permanent break from Chelsea, with his existing contract extending well beyond the current season.

Como, meanwhile, have created space in their goalkeeping group after allowing Noel Törnqvist to join Monza on loan for the 2026/27 campaign. The Serie A club are now moving to add Sánchez as they strengthen Cesc Fàbregas’s squad before the window closes.

The precise financial structure of the proposed loan has not been reliably established, and there is no sufficiently strong confirmation at this stage of any option to buy.

For now, the deal should be treated as advanced rather than complete: Chelsea and Como have reportedly reached a verbal agreement, Sánchez is travelling to Italy, but the transfer still awaits its final steps and official confirmation.
