Chelsea reject Roma loan bid for Jamie Gittens

Roma have had an opening bid for Chelsea winger Jamie Gittens rejected as the Serie A club continue to explore attacking reinforcements.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Roma proposed a season-long loan worth €3 million with an option to buy the England winger for a further €40 million.

Chelsea turned down the initial offer, but Gittens remains on Roma’s shortlist as the Italian club look to add more quality in wide areas before the end of the transfer window.

The 22-year-old joined Chelsea from Borussia Dortmund last summer and remains part of the Blues’ long-term plans, which is reflected in their decision to reject Roma’s first approach.

Roma have already strengthened their attack with the signing of Rodrigo Mora but are continuing to assess further opportunities in the market.

Gian Piero Gasperini is looking for additional attacking options capable of operating in one-on-one situations and providing direct threat from wide positions, a profile Gittens fits naturally.

At this stage, there is no agreement between the clubs and Chelsea have given no indication that they are prepared to accept the terms currently on the table.

Roma must therefore decide whether to return with an improved proposal or move on to alternative targets as the transfer deadline approaches.
