Borussia Dortmund loan Almugera Kabar to NEC Nijmegen

Borussia Dortmund have sent Almugera Kabar on loan to NEC Nijmegen for the remainder of the 2026/27 season, giving the young defender the opportunity to gain more regular first-team experience.

The 20-year-old remains under contract with Dortmund and the agreement does not include an option for NEC to make the move permanent at the end of the season.

That structure reflects Dortmund’s continued belief in Kabar’s long-term potential. Rather than moving him on permanently, the Bundesliga club have chosen a temporary transfer designed to give him more consistent minutes at senior level.

Kabar has been part of Dortmund’s academy system since 2019 and has gradually progressed toward the first team. He has made a limited number of Bundesliga appearances, while also gaining experience with Dortmund’s reserve side in Germany’s lower divisions.

The move to the Netherlands now gives him a clearer pathway to regular competitive football.

Kabar was involved in Dortmund’s summer preparations and featured during pre-season, but competition for places in the senior squad made consistent playing time difficult to guarantee.

A season at NEC should therefore provide Dortmund with a better opportunity to assess his development over an extended period.

The defender also arrives with a strong youth international background. Kabar was part of the Germany side that won both the UEFA European Under-17 Championship and the FIFA Under-17 World Cup, achievements that helped establish him as one of the more highly rated players from his age group.

BILD reports that the transfer was completed quickly in part to allow NEC to register Kabar for its European fixtures.

For Dortmund, the absence of a purchase option means the club will retain full control over the player’s future once the loan ends.

The priority for Kabar now will be regular minutes and continued development in the Eredivisie before returning to Dortmund for another assessment next summer.
