Bologna confirm Riccardo Orsolini out for around three weeks with thigh injury

Bologna winger Riccardo Orsolini is expected to be sidelined for around three weeks after medical examinations confirmed a muscle injury in his left thigh.

The Serie A club issued the update on Thursday after Orsolini underwent tests following the problem he sustained during Monday’s 1-0 defeat away to Atalanta.

Bologna said the 29-year-old had initially experienced discomfort in the flexor area of his left thigh, with subsequent examinations revealing a lesion. The club have placed his expected recovery period at approximately three weeks.

Orsolini had entered the Atalanta match from the bench but was forced off after only 20 minutes because of the problem, leaving Bologna waiting for further assessment before the extent of the injury could be established.

Thursday’s diagnosis now rules him out of Bologna’s immediate plans as Domenico Tedesco’s side prepare to host Sassuolo in Serie A on Sunday.

The three-week estimate also puts Orsolini’s availability for the following fixtures under significant doubt, although Bologna have not provided a specific return match and his progress will depend on how he responds during rehabilitation.

His absence removes one of Bologna’s most established attacking options at the beginning of the new campaign. Orsolini has been a regular source of goals from the right flank in recent seasons and remains an important part of Tedesco’s attacking group.

Bologna returned to training at Casteldebole on Thursday as preparations began for the Sassuolo match. The club also reported that midfielder Oussama El Azzouzi completed an individual training programme.

For Orsolini, the immediate focus will now be on recovering from the thigh injury, with Bologna’s official estimate placing a return at roughly three weeks rather than committing to a precise date.
