Arsenal handed Rice, Saka and Zubimendi boost ahead of Community Shield
Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka and Martín Zubimendi are available for Arsenal’s Community Shield meeting with Manchester City after returning to team training, giving Mikel Arteta a major boost ahead of the first competitive test of the season.

Arsenal have received a significant fitness boost ahead of the Community Shield, with Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka and Martín Zubimendi available for the meeting with Manchester City.
Mikel Arteta confirmed that all three players have returned to team training and are in contention for the first major fixture of Arsenal’s season.
Their availability gives the manager considerably more flexibility after a disrupted preparation period following the World Cup. Rice, Saka and Zubimendi all returned later than much of the squad, limiting the amount of pre-season work they were able to complete with the group.
That does not guarantee any of them a place in the starting XI, but having all three available changes the range of options Arteta can consider against City.
Rice’s return is particularly important after his physical condition required careful management during the latter stages of last season and into the summer. The England midfielder remains central to Arsenal’s ability to compete physically in midfield while also carrying the ball into more advanced areas.
Saka provides a similar lift further forward.
His ability to stretch defensive lines, create from the right and contribute consistently in the final third makes him one of Arsenal’s most influential attacking players. After dealing with physical problems during the previous campaign, managing his workload will remain important, but his availability strengthens Arsenal considerably for the Community Shield.
Zubimendi’s return also gives Arteta another important option in central midfield. His presence alongside Rice would allow Arsenal to vary the structure of their build-up and potentially give Rice greater freedom to influence the game higher up the pitch.
The fitness news is not entirely positive.
William Saliba remains unavailable as he continues his recovery from a back problem, while Jurrien Timber is still working toward a full return and is not expected to be ready for the Community Shield.
Those absences mean Arsenal will still have decisions to make defensively, particularly against a Manchester City side capable of applying sustained pressure in possession.
Further forward and in midfield, however, the situation is considerably stronger.
The Community Shield will provide Arsenal with their first competitive test of the new season and an opportunity to measure their preparation against one of their principal domestic rivals.
For Arteta, the priority will be balancing the desire to compete for the first trophy of the campaign with the need to manage players whose pre-season preparation has been shorter than usual.
Having Rice, Saka and Zubimendi available gives him significantly more room to make that decision.
