Arsenal step up Julián Álvarez interest as Atlético Madrid hold firm on premium valuation

Arsenal are intensifying their interest in Julián Álvarez as they assess whether Atlético Madrid can be persuaded to part with the Argentina forward before the transfer window closes.

The 26-year-old remains one of the most valuable attacking players on the market, and Atlético are understood to have little interest in considering a sale unless a premium offer arrives. Reports have placed the threshold well above £100 million, with figures in excess of £120 million discussed around the player’s valuation.

Arsenal’s interest is therefore significant, but the situation is not yet at the stage of a confirmed club-to-club agreement or formal advanced negotiation.

The Gunners are exploring whether a deal is realistic within the remaining window, with Álvarez offering a profile capable of improving both their central attack and their flexibility across the front line.

That versatility is part of the appeal. Álvarez can operate as a No.9, drop into deeper spaces to connect play and press aggressively without the ball, giving Mikel Arteta a forward who could influence more than one phase of Arsenal’s attacking structure.
