Arsenal agree £50m deal with Aston Villa for Ezri Konsa

Arsenal have reached an agreement with Aston Villa over the signing of Ezri Konsa, with the England defender set to undergo a medical ahead of a proposed move to north London.

The deal is understood to be worth around £50 million, bringing negotiations between the two Premier League clubs to a breakthrough after Villa had initially valued the 28-year-old at a higher figure.

According to The Times, Konsa is expected to complete his medical on Thursday before final contractual and registration formalities are completed. Personal terms are also understood to be in place, leaving the transfer dependent on the remaining procedural steps rather than further negotiations between the clubs.

Konsa has developed into one of Aston Villa’s most reliable defenders in recent seasons and offers the positional flexibility Arsenal have been seeking. He is comfortable operating both at centre-back and on the right side of defence, giving Mikel Arteta another experienced option across the back line.

Arsenal’s interest has been shaped in part by fitness concerns involving William Saliba and Jurriën Timber, increasing the importance of adding another defender capable of immediately handling Premier League and European demands.

The England international has accumulated substantial top-flight experience since joining Villa and has also become a regular member of the national-team setup. His consistency, recovery pace and ability to defend in different structures have made him an attractive target for an Arsenal side looking to maintain depth across a demanding season.

For Aston Villa, a sale at around £50 million would represent a significant piece of business but would also remove a player who has been central to Unai Emery’s defensive unit.

The transfer has not yet been officially announced by either club. However, with a club-to-club agreement reportedly in place, personal terms settled and a medical scheduled, Konsa is now close to completing a move to Arsenal.
